Many times I read through my LinkedIn profile and the continued attempt to balance my hustle and my passion is glaring in my career history. Someone shared the image in the box with me about 17 years ago and I refer to and think about it a lot. Whilst I try to nail "purpose" and focus on one thing, I continue to juggle both.
I remember it was in the thick of trying to get my MSc final project done that I got excited about an idea that randomly came to me in the university library one day (whilst hustling 🙂). I planned and executed 5 taster sessions of Playing S.T.E.A.M - a club for children (ages 5 -11) to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, STRICTLY through play and using things they can see and touch.
Whilst I am passionate about creating positive experiences for children in their beginning years, I have also developed skills in managing projects and developing products.
Maybe one day my hustle will pay for my passion, maybe at some point I will leave the passion and focus on the hustle for life reasons, maybe I may only get ever so close to that tiny circle of "purpose" - I honestly don't know at this point. For now, I'll keep taking steps towards making sure both balls stay in the air - managing software projects and building the S.T.E.A.M club.
Izefua Ehia-Williams Erhaboh, PCC has been telling me lately about "The Dance of Polarities"; I have identified and am now working through a couple of others, maybe this is a third I need to assess. She uses the concept of the ying-yang a lot in our conversations, maybe this is me - the ying and yang of my hustle and my passion. And maybe a combination and/or balance of both is my tiny circle of purpose?
